Look at this marvel of engineering! TenneT is building a new offshore wind transformator station in the North Sea, approximately 18.5 kilometers off the coast of Egmond aan Zee, and we’re filming the entire process. A station that will provide 700 megawatts of renewable energy for households, businesses, and industry. And it will be equipped with monitoring systems for climate and wildlife, generating both electricity and valuable data on the North Sea! We love to be at the forefront of the energy transition. Especially when it implies filming on the North Sea and engineering that tries to co-exist with nature. To learn more about this project, visit our website.

‘When you first dive into the water, they’re pretty shy. But it doesn’t take long before their curiosity gets the best of them and they start bouncing against your camera.’

This is our videographer @petervanrodijnen talking about one of the most iconic animals in our North Sea: the seal. It’s one of the seventy characters we’re following for our TV-series and our documentary and as you can tell by the quote, they’re as wonderful to film as you would imagine.

In the cold months of winter the underwater landsc

In the cold months of winter the underwater landscape looks grey and dull. Or does it? Not if it’s up to the oaten pipes hydroid. Look at this jellyfish on stalks! They are really brightening up the delta!

These littles creatures are jellyfish that found a way to settle. They sting with their tentacles, which are also used to catch food. And when you see one with a bunch of grapes hanging of it, that means little baby oaten pipes hydroids are on their way…

We are always on the lookout for stories from the

We are always on the lookout for stories from the North Sea. The animals living in the sea, or flying above it, the people making a living on the North Sea, there is so much to tell!

A very specific kind of story about the North Sea is captured in fossils, most of which are land based animals. Yes, land based… Because 8000 years ago, there was no North Sea. You could walk from The Netherlands to England! That’s an amazing story in itself, for which we want to film some footage for our television series.

So when the Rijksmuseum voor Oudheden organized a fossil hunt on the beach near Monster, The Netherlands, we wanted to be there. The discoveries were amazing. We’ve seen some very interesting fossils, which tell a very different story about the untamed “sea” from the ones we’re filming in the present day.

We filmed some amazing fossils and a lot of very excited fossil hunters, both young and old. And the experts could tell a new story with every fossil found. A great day to dive into the history of the wild North Sea and film some fascinating shots.

There are no rainbows underwater, but thanks to these worms there’s still a lot of color in the North Sea. Look at them! All these shapes, the beautiful colors, and they’re very useful as well.

Some worms crawl and dig, others build tough tubes in which they can hide. Most of them filter food from the flowing water. They are basically the gardeners of the North Sea… and looking pretty while doing their job!
