Diving for a beautiful North Sea

The North Sea has become one of the most intensively used seas in the world. It is threatened, due to its rich resources and strategic location.The North Sea needs to be cleaned up. Only forty percent of its original biodiversity is left. Some habitats, such as the oyster banks which formed valuable natural hard substrate, have severely diminished.

Expeditions

Foundation ‘Dive the North Sea Clean’ has plentiful expertise in dive expeditions on the North Sea. For almost two decades they successfully raise awareness to the need of protecting the North Sea. Including key ecological areas and such as the ship wrecks. Volunteers with heart and passion for the North Sea, dive to clean the wrecks, explore key ecological areas and discover new biological species.

Results

Since 1999 the volunteers have removed 30.000 kg of fishing nets, 10.000 kg of fishing lead and 40.000 km of fishing lines. This greatly contributes to clean up the ocean and keep the wrecks an ecologically healthy biodiversity hotspots. Additionally professional underwater filmmakers and photographers have created a  wide and divers stock of media. Images and footage are crucial for creating a right mindset of the people and showing the beauty and fragility of our North Sea.
